Dog Demonstrations

APCO International’s Annual Conference and Expo is the premier event for public safety communications officials, and we can’t leave out our four-legged partners on the frontline either!

Be sure to stop by the Dog Demo area (booth #590) to see some of the finest canine “officers” in Baltimore City Police Department’s (BPD) K9 Unit.

About Baltimore City Police Department’s K9 Unit
BPD’s K9 Unit has been in existence since 1957.
The unit currently has 25 dogs handled by 27 handlers. It provides coverage for patrol use 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

K-9 provides 24-hour coverage for explosives detection, control dangerous substance, tracking, guns, article searches and apprehension.

The K9 Unit handles hundreds of calls for service a year. The dogs provide support to all units of the department, as well as other jurisdictions.
